Leeches On College Trip Ruined My Health, Ex-Student Claims

A former tourism student who said he had to walk barefoot through a leech-infested jungle during a field trip to Sri Lanka is suing a Welsh college for damages. James Sheridan alleges he and other students on a Masters degree course suffered dozens of leech bites and that one student collapsed with heat exhaustion. One female student was "screaming" after finding leeches on her legs, he added.

The 50-year-old from Neath said a bus taking the Swansea Institute students from their base in Kandy, Sri Lanka, took a wrong turn into the Sanharaja Rainforest. It was inhabited by what he called rabid monkeys, bats, big cats and millions of blood-sucking leeches.
