A friend and I recently took our children to the Medieval Village at Cosmeston near Cardiff - if you've not been I recommend it. We spent a sunny afternoon visiting the replica medieval houses, outbuildings and tents. We also spent some time talking to the 'villagers' who played the parts of medieval village folk exceptionally well.

My five-year-old son was particularly impressed with some chain mail which was on display outside one of the tents. I wish here and now to record my admiration for anyone - living or dead - who can stand up straight while wearing such a garment, let alone run around on a battlefield killing people.
