Summary


Sir - The intention of the Westminster government to fly the Union flag from all government buildings in the UK seems to be a desperate act of saving a crumbling British Union and salvaging something from the debris of colonialism.

Wales is not represented on the Union flag. When the flag was designed in 1606, Wales was seen as part of England and thus represented by the Cross of St George. This has to be seen by any true Welsh person, whether by birth or by choice, as nonsensical as we have the world's oldest national flag and, through devolution, a degree of self-governing power.
