Summary
Sir - David B Lawrence's suggestion (Letters, July 25) that Welsh place names on road signs be in italics to reduce safety risks may have some merit; I do not know. However, last week my wife and I were on a coach tour of the Killarney area in Ireland in the company of a considerable number of very pleasant people from England and, as far as I am aware, there was no criticism whatsoever of the fact that English was preceded by Gaelic on the road signs.
If that bilingual policy can be accepted in Ireland, where I suspect there are few people who cannot speak English, why does it cause such a stir in Wales that its native tongue takes priority?See the full content of this document
