SIR - Present-day Swansea positively revels in its association with Dylan Thomas and has celebrated the achievements of its most famous poet by erecting a statue and naming a civic centre, theatre, school and public house in his honour.

But in his own lifetime, internationally famous though he was, his Bohemian lifestyle and wild drinking sprees ensured that he was treated very much as a rebel and outcast by officialdom and almost totally marginalised.
