SIR - I think I could forgive Sir Eric Howells for his ignorance of the religious history of these islands (Letters, Dec 17). I could even forgive him for his complete misunderstanding of the United Kingdom constitution, but not for both.
Anybody who had read Gwyn Davies' book Gloau Gwlad Cristnogaeth yng Nghymru 200-2000 in Welsh or English would know that there were Christians in these islands some 1,300 years before the passing of the 1537 Act of Union between England and Wales. And some 1,500 by the time the Act of Union with Scotland was passed in 1707 and a good 1,600 years had passed before the Act of Union with Ireland got on to the statue book in 1801.See the full content of this document
