Sir Menzies Campbell committed the Liberal Democrats to income tax cuts yesterday as he sought to reinvigorate his leadership of the party. In a speech to mark his first 100 days as leader, he pledged to make up the difference with increases in environmental taxes.

But the plans were dismissed as 'completely unrealistic' by Prime Minister Tony Blair.
