Summary
In a couple of weeks' time former Prime Minister John Major will be established as one of the world's most recognisable commentators on cricket. More Than A Game, his study of the early years of the sport, will arrive in bookshops on May 14, and 12 days later he will emerge as an author at the Hay Festival. Some career scholars of the bat and wicket may grumble that Mr Major strolls onto their pitch with ready-made but unwarranted celebrity. However, the most surprising aspect of his political memoirs wasn't any revelation of Cabinet skullduggery but rather the quality of his prose. Let's not begrude him his talent for writing about things which fascinate him.
