It was a case of third time lucky for Wrexham in the Potteries last night when a Chris Llewellyn penalty fired them into the second round of the Carling Cup and avoided a third defeat in three years by Vale. With the sides deadlocked at 1-1 after 120 minutes, the Welsh international kept his nerve after a miss by Vale's Danny Whitaker in the penalty shoot-out and a place in the second round was no more than Brian Carey's side deserved.
