As Gordon Brown marks his first month in Number 10, Political Editor Tomos Livingstone looks at the Prime Minister's performance so far A HONEYMOON is supposed to last a month, but if the opinion polls are to be believed Gordon Brown's love-in with the electorate is going to last a good deal longer. Almost everything has gone according to plan since Mr Brown's first act as Prime Minister, tapping the microphone nervously outside Number 10 and saying, "Let the work of change begin." Things have changed - not least a five- point lead for Labour in the opinion polls - but they've also stayed the same. Part of the Brown plan is to convince floating voters that only the first part of that sentence is true, repeating the trick that John Major pulled off in 1990-92, portraying what was basically the same Government as something new.

Lots of Blairite baggage has been enthusiastically thrown from the side of the train, but there has been no real change of course.
