The Conservative party made headline news last week with the promise to reduce the inheritance tax liability for many people by raising the limit before tax, to pounds 1m, and yesterday Labour raised it to pounds 600,000. As the opinion polls showed this would be a highly popular move given that the burden of inheritance tax has doubled in the years since Labour came to power.
