The man accused of murdering police detective Michael Swindells was remanded in custody after appearing in court yesterday.

Glaister Earl Butler appeared before a deputy district judge at Birmingham Magistrates' Court, where he was formally accused of murdering the 44-year-old officer, who was stabbed to death as he attempted to make an arrest in the Nechells area of the city on Friday.
