Minister Urged to Test Cows for Tb

Wales Rural Affairs Minister Carwyn Jones has been urged to introduce routine testing of cattle in a bid to combat bovine TB. The call by Welsh Conservative leader Nick Bourne came as Ministers in London ruled out a new cull of badgers to tackle the disease, and the National Beef Association questioned the policy of slaughtering infected cattle while allowing infected badgers to roam free.

Mr Bourne said routine tests for bovine TB are currently carried out every one to four years, depending on local circumstances - although annual testing may be undertaken in areas where infection rates are high.
