A woman accused of stabbing a love rival 17 times and leaving her blind in one eye told a jury, 'I am so sorry for what happened.' Alethea Foster, 61, of Bromley, London, yesterday said she had no memory of attacking or wanting to attack Cambridge University student Julie Simpson, 45, of Beckenham, London.

Foster told Cambridge Crown Court that she planned to kill herself in the student's room at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, in October 2005 after discovering that Miss Simpson had been having an affair with her husband John, 58, for more than 15 years.
