The mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence yesterday criticised Tory leader Michael Howard for his handling of the case.

He was asked why he had not ordered a public inquiry into the killing during his time as Home Secretary. Mr Howard told Commercial Radio's UK Leaders Live he had been awaiting the report from the Police Complaints Commission when he was swept out of office in 1997.
