Summary
Seven battalions of soldiers yesterday marched for the first time as the newly-merged Royal Welsh Regiment. Formed from the Royal Welch Fusiliers, the Royal Regiment of Wales and the TA's Royal Welsh Regiment, the new regiment came into being at one minute past midnight yesterday.
Led by the regimental goat mascot, the hundreds of soldiers stopped traffic in Cardiff as they paraded up St Mary Street to City Hall where Lord Mayor Freda Salway took the salute.
