Sixteen months ago, Cameron decided to fulfil his long-standing ambition of reaching the South Pole.

"I didn't consider myself to be extensively trained in polar travel," he laughed. "One of the nice morals of this story is that if I can do it anyone can."

Just over a year later and Cameron was in the coldest and most inhospitable continent on the planet, skiing across frozen wastes. "We travelled on cross-country skis and pulled our own equipment behind us on sleds," he said.
