Sir - Regarding 'time to drop all-Wales police merger', losing one Home Secretary (David Blunkett) was a tragedy, losing a second Home Secretary (Charles Clark) a tad careless, the potential loss of yet a third Home Secretary (John Reid), in little less than two years, if not so serious, would have the faint whiff of farce about it.

The over-hasty way Labour is attempting to merge our police forces, against the wishes of the public, is insulting. All serious commentators in the field think the Labour government's plan is unrealistic. The police themselves predict that an all-Wales force would face growing deficits that would mean service cuts.
