SIR - Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in Britain, 200 years ago, the advance of scientific knowledge has been used by employers to replace paid workers with machines.

Great advantages have come from this, to employers and consumers, with larger profits and lower prices, but one section of the community alone has suffered, generation after generation, the unemployed.
