New Year, New Plan to Tackle Those Nasty Lingering Debts

Summary

Chief executive of Teacher Support Cymru Patrick Nash gives his advice on how to tackle those Question: The holiday season was particularly expensive for me this year, as I have five kids I had to buy for and I had to pay out a lot of money on house and car repairs last year. We've also moved to a new area and I've had to take a teaching job that pays less than my previous one. All in all, I am in quite a bit of debt and I can't see a way out of it. Can you help?

Answer: You're not alone. According to the website www.creditaction.org.uk our total personal debt in the UK has exceeded pounds 1.25 trillion and, at the end of October 2006, it stood at pounds 1,268bn. At Teacher Support Cymru we usually have a lot of people contacting us about money worries after the holiday season, but there is a lot you can do to help remedy the situation. As part of the Teacher Support Network, the Teacher Support Cymru website at www.teachersupport.info has an interactive self- assessment form which allows you to put down all your expenditure and income, and work out ways to save money and help yourself to get out of debt.
