THIS impressively large vase is an example of a type of pottery known as delft or delftware.

Delftware, which derives its name from the town of Delft in the Netherlands, consists of a quite soft earthenware body covered in a white tin glaze, then usually decorated in cobalt blue or a limited range of polychrome enamels.
