Wales could become a world centre for military training if a bid for a pounds 14bn facility at St Athan is approved. A consortium involving the US weapons giant Raytheon and Qinetiq - the MoD's newly privatised R&D operation - is bidding to pull together the training activities of the Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
