Quiet Roar

Peel counted the days until Sir Clive Woodward announced his tour party to visit New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions.

'But I'm not nervous,' insisted Peel, whose slight and boyish looks belie an incredibly firm, muscular handshake.

Yet when I first speak to him, he refused to elaborate any further.

'I do not want to talk about the Lions,' he says, polite but firm.

The seemingly endless wait must have occupied the minds of every international rugby player in Wales before the squad selection.

Peel's wait must have been worse because he would have been set up for one of the greatest falls of international rugby history had he not been chosen.
