The controversial planning policy that could put one of Wales' top rugby clubs out of business is 'fundamentally flawed' and should be wholly revised, a senior politician said last night. Rhodri Glyn Thomas, Plaid Cymru's deputy leader at the National Assembly, said he was extremely concerned at the way vast areas of Wales had recently been categorised as at risk of flooding. Llanelli Rugby Club has warned that it may fold unless it is allowed to redevelop its Stradey Park ground for housing. The club wants to build a new stadium elsewhere in the town using cash gained from the sale of the Stradey Park land.

But its planning application to build 450 homes at Stradey Park has been 'called in' by the Assembly Government because the site is said to be on a flood plain.
