Labour Am's Researcher Resigns Over 'Brain-Dead Language' Slur Against Welsh

A labour researcher who referred to Welsh as a "brain-dead" language resigned from his job yesterday, apologising for the embarrassment he had caused to the AM who employed him. David Collins provoked a storm of anger last week after posting a message on a political blog stating, "You cannot successfully teach a practically brain-dead language to young children whose families don't want it revived or couldn't care less about it." He later said the inclusion of the word "brain" in the message was a typing error.

Mr Collins, 33, a school governor is standing for Labour for Cardiff Council in next year's elections. He worked for Vale of Clwyd AM Ann Jones. He released the text of his resignation letter, which said, "Having returned to the UK last night and for the first time properly seen the coverage in Friday and Saturday's papers, it is clear to me that it is untenable for me to remain in your employment.
