THE death of Ernie Wise at the age of 73 yesterday has brought the curtain down on the remaining half of Britain's best- loved comedy team. Memories of Morecambe and Wise will live on, particularly in Swansea where the pair launched their glittering career almost 60 years ago. When Eric and Ernie first took to the stage together in West Wales they set out to become the best double act in the world. Few would dispute that they achieved their aim. But in the wartime show at Swansea's old Empire Theatre in Oxford Street they gave little indication of the sunshine and laughter they would bring to millions.
