I COMPLETELY agree with the writer Maya Angelou when she says that it is important "...for us to recognise and celebrate our heroes and she-roes." And on a day like today, I hope that we will all take a moment to think about the heroic women who, 90 years ago, led us to a crucial day in the history of our democracy.
For today, as it happens, marks the 90th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918. This gave women over the age of 30 the right to vote. It was an important step that paved the way for full equality 10 years later when women were given exactly the same voting rights as men.See the full content of this document
