More than pounds 1.5m was raised for the Asian tsunami's victims through the spectacular benefit gig and other events organised by Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. And portraits of the stars who performed at the televised concert have raised more than pounds 20,000 for the cause, taking the total to pounds 1,523,137. The paintings were the work of children and young people in Wales and they were signed by famous names - including Eric Clapton, Lulu and Charlotte Church, who performed at the January 22 concert - before they were auctioned online.
Millennium Stadium general manager Paul Sergeant yesterday paid tribute to the children from Ysgol Erw'r Delyn Special Schoolin Penarth and youth trainees from Careers Wales whose artistic efforts added an extra pounds 21,870 to the Tsunami Relief Cardiff fund, which raised more than pounds 1m from the gig, which was attended by more than 60,000 music fans.See the full content of this document
