SIR - Could I respond to your report, "Collapse of plan for councils to merge functions threatens local authority jobs" (March 9), that the South-East Wales Shared Services Project, which involved 10 local authorities collaborating on human resources, payroll and training, was not now going ahead? Caerphilly was one of several authorities which decided after very careful consideration to withdraw from the scheme because we did not believe it would deliver the savings that initially were promised for the council taxpayers of this area.
In fact, we were faced with the prospect of a substantial initial investment and the possibility of savings after several years.See the full content of this document
