Australia midfielder Tim Cahill was in a state of shock after his side's dramatic World Cup exit at the hands of 10-man Italy.

Former Everton team-mate Marco Materazzi was sent off early in the second half for a two-footed tackle on Marco Bresciano but the Socceroos failed to break them down and paid the ultimate price when substitute Francesco Totti scored an injury-time penalty to send Italy through to the quarter-final stage of the competition.
