Image: Suave and sophisticated pensioner Best known for: The Man from UNCLE Early life: David Keith McCallum Jr was born in Glasgow on September 19, 1933. He has an older brother, Iain. His father was concert master at the London Philharmonic and his mother was a cellist. David was expected to follow in their footsteps as a professional musician. The family moved to London when he was 10. He later studied at the Royal College of Music, but left to attend Rada. Career: Became an assistant stage manager, but National Service interrupted his career. He made his film debut in 1957's These Dangerous Years, and appeared in numerous British movies before moving to Hollywood in the early 1960s. He landed roles in Billy Budd and The Great Escape but it was his performance as Illya Kuryakin in The Man from UNCLE that made him a household name in 1964. The series ran until 1968, and a spin-off TV movie was made in 1983. Other major projects include Colditz, The Invisible Man, Sapphire and Steel, Mother Love, Hear My Song, Cluedo and NCIS. He's also lent his voice to TV show The Replacements and new animated movie Batman: Gotham Knight.
Love life: Had three sons (one adopted) with first wife Jill Ireland. They divorced after 10 years in 1967. He married Katherine Carpenter later the same year. They have a son and a daughter.
