A WAVE of strikes by cabin crew, coupled with disruption caused by Iceland's volcanic ash cloud, sent British Airways pounds 164m into the red for the three months to June, the airline reported yesterday.

The double whammy of the bitter industrial dispute with the Unite union and the closure of most of European airspace for almost a week in April cost the carrier around pounds 250m over the quarter.
