Now the Wi Sways Towards Belly Dancing, Tai Chi and Aquaerobics

Summary

Belly dancing and tai chi are the latest activities aimed at encouraging women to keep fit - and join the WI. Golf and the traditional pursuit of croquet are also being offered to women across Wales as part of the Women's Institute's latest recruitment strategy.

The decision to adopt 'alternative' sports and fitness sessions, comes after the WI ran a similar scheme in 2003. The scheme, initially to be run in three areas of Wales for a 12- month trial period, gives women the chance to experience activities they may not have had the means or confidence to try before, in 'non- threatening' single sex groups, with fellow WI members.
