Summary


'it's so, so Christmassy!' sighs my eight-year-old daughter contentedly, snuggling up in the back of the car. I know what she means. It's cold and dark outside and we're just about to drive through possibly the worst thunderstorm on record, judging by the disturbing size of the raindrops just starting to pound the roof and the fact that I can no longer see the road ahead.

I'm glad that my children feel cosy and homely enough to be able to summon up the spirit of Christmas in such conditions but it's more than a bit dispiriting when it's the middle of August and the first day of your summer holiday.
