A teenager who suffered irreversible brain damage after being struck down by a virus when just three weeks old has been awarded pounds 2.75m compensation. The High Court heard that 13-year-old Gethin Davies, from Ammanford, will be dependent on others for life. Managers at Swansea NHS Trust last night accepted that there had been a "negligent delay" in treating Gethin with an anti-viral drug.
New practices have since been adopted across the NHS which means patients will be treated with an antibiotic for herpes infections in cases of meningitis.See the full content of this document
