British Energy yesterday said it generated more power than expected during the final weeks of a difficult financial year. The group, which operates eight nuclear power stations and one coal- fired plant, said total output for the year to March had been 58.4 terawatt hours (TWh), marginally ahead of current market expectations.

British Energy shares have been under pressure since December, when the company said the return to service for sites at Hunterston and Hinkley Point was likely to be the end of March, costing nine TWh of output in the year.
