A COMMUNITY said goodbye yesterday to Calypso king Lord Melody, 67, of Llanishen, who had died after an 18-month illness.

Born in Grenada, in the West Indies, Lord Melody - also known as John Frederick and Mohammed Abdullah - lived in Cardiff most of his life and was a leading light in the popular Butetown and Cardiff festivals. His funeral was held at Alice Street Mosque, Butetown, and burial was at Western Cemetery.
