Ahuge leatherback turtle fitted with a satellite tracking device in South America has made a marathon 7,000-mile journey into the waters around Britain, wildlife campaigners have announced. Aikanti was fitted with a satellite transmitter in Surinam in June, as part of a WWF project designed to monitor the movement and threats to the species in the Atlantic.
The arrival of the 5ft reptile in the waters around the UK and Ireland coincides with ITV's Extinct series which last night featured Dermot O'Leary finding out about WWF's work on marine turtles in Latin America.See the full content of this document
