SIR - Press coverage of the case of John Hogan ("Hotel-leap father returns to Britain, and heads for further psychiatric care", June 16) exemplifies a trend that needs to be reversed, where psychiatry is eroding the justice system.

Psychiatry is attempting to eradicate the concept of right and wrong and thereby destroy personal responsibility by inventing excuses for the most flagrant misconduct, undermining the justice system. Instead of going to prison, John Hogan was cleared of murdering his six-year-old son, and has spent his time in a psychiatric hospital, initially in Greece, and now in England.
