Summary
Higher pockets of unemployment can now be found in London than in Wales, new Government figures reveal. While Wales has a lower than UK average jobless rate for a number of years, the degree of variation from area to area is also now less pronounced. Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - looking at unemployment levels in 2005 - show that the Tower Hamlets, east London, suffered the highest rate of unemployment in the UK at 11.3%, followed by the London boroughs of Hackney (10.5%), Barking and Dagenham (9.2%) and Liverpool also on 9.2%.
In contrast, the lowest unemployment was found in Eden, Cumbria at 2%, followed by Craven in north Yorkshire, Purbeck in Dorset and west Oxfordshire with just 2.1%.See the full content of this document
