NO amount of money will ever do justice to the sheer horrors experienced by those present when furnace number five at Corus's Port Talbot plant exploded just over five years ago. And no compensation payment could ever cover the sense of loss felt by the families of the three men who died or the 17 who were injured.

Yesterday's High Court decree that the steelmaker should pay pounds 3m for the safety breaches that led to the explosion shows a pleasing willingness on the part of the courts to point the finger when there is blame to be apportioned to a large corporation; many, however, will question whether the fine was high enough.
