SIR - Brian Christley (Letters, Aug 8) expresses his view that Wales is seen by the rest of the EU as an undeveloped nation in need of the support normally reserved for banana republics, and he's quite right they do, and so do most countries that have ever even heard of Wales.

I believe that Wales is not so much in decline, it never manages to progress, and this is due almost entirely to the fact that we are a deeply divided region of the UK and are ruled and dictated to by a minority of nationalists. These people either run or have major influence in councils, the WAG, BBC Wales, the press, and the police.
