Summary
The tsunami and its aftermath has produced a worldwide, spontaneous explosion of compassion. Everywhere you go people are collecting or donating, even the normally flint-hearted. I'm glad but even as I look and marvel I worry that such a profound reaction will be followed by a mood of complacency, a moment when we all sit back and say, 'We did our bit', especially as pictures trickle through of communities rebuilt and lives restored.
If this outpouring of generosity is followed by a drought, this will not be the hoped-for moment when a basically insular human race redefines itself.See the full content of this document
