Summary
SIXTY-EIGHT years ago this month Hitler's bombers disabled the House of Commons. This time the disabling has been an inside job. In his resignation statement Speaker Martin, for whom I have the sympathy I'd have for any scapegoat, said: "I have always felt this House is at its best when it is united".
