Jane hutt's removal as Welsh Health Minister comes after a series of open and unprecedented public attacks on her by politicians from her own party. Perhaps the most stinging criticism came in February last year from Pontypridd MP Kim Howells, a UK Government Minister who has the ear of Tony Blair.: Hutt's horror story:Waiting lists Doctors said they were weeping in despair at the ever-growing waiting lists as it emerged that the numbers of patients waiting for an outpatient appointment had reached their highest level ever in October 2004. The rising waiting lists are undermining the hard work being carried out by dedicated staff, the British Medical Association said.

Waiting times Having reneged on the manifesto promise that no patients would be waiting more than 18 months by the end of the first Labour administration, the Welsh Assembly Government instead embarked on a series of targeted waiting list initiatives. Despite pouring in excess of pounds 12m to ensure no patient had to wait more than 18 months for orthopaedic treatment by July 2002, a year later that target had not been met.
