SIR - Had he been a member of the Leinster front row last Friday evening, said Jonathan Davies in the commentary box, he would not have been "happy" that referee Nigel Owens chose to speak a few words in Welsh to a member of the Scarlets' front row before a scrum.

This to me smacks of that forelock-tugging attitude which seems to consider Welsh a kind of luxury to be indulged in only when there are no non-Welsh speakers around.
