Summary

One of Wales' brightest scriptwriting talents has been named among the top 50 young writers in the UK. Tim Price, 25, has been nominated for 'the 50' , a new project from the BBC and the Royal Court which aims to uncover and nurture the next generation of British writing talent. It means Tim, originally from Aberdare but now living in Cardiff, will receive a bursary and mentoring from an industry professional to help with his writing. He will also have the opportunity to pitch for BBC Radio and TV commissions and a Royal Court attachment. In addition, the BBC/Royal Court will run a series of masterclasses exploring writing for the theatre, TV, radio and film. Tim is behind a new S4C series The Cockle Farmer, a comedy- drama set in Carmarthen where the indigenous criminal fraternity face invading Yardies with guns and humour. The first series will be broadcast in September next year. He has also written two episodes of Caerdydd, the Welsh channel's drama set in the capital. 'Sgript Cymru nominated me for the bursary - I've got a play commissioned with them at the moment called Burn and they put me forward for this scheme,' he said. 'It is all based at the Royal Court - which is brilliant. Getting involved with the Royal Court is really special because it is the new writing heart of Britain.'

The bursary will launch today at the Royal Court Theatre and will include a question and answer session for the chosen 50 with writer Hanif Kureishi.
