By the time autumn comes around, shopkeepers in Wales are habitually left disappointed by the surplus of sun cream, sunglasses and barbecues left sitting on their shelves.

Not this year though. The scorching summer has left its mark on the tills of the nation's shops, with sales of everything from outdoor pools to gardening equipment, and air conditioning units to bottled water, going through the roof during a roastingly hot July.
