It is important that when something is opened - be it a grand Millennium Centre or a tin of sardines - it is done correctly. To many of us the opening of the trout fishing season is a grand occasion and deserves the accolade given to the Glorious Twelfth - the opening of the grouse shooting season or the hoo-ha associated with the commencement of the pheasant shooting season.

Unfortunately today there is such a plethora of opening days to the fishing season and these vary from river to river. However, March 3 is an important opening day for rivers like the Teifi and Usk - the two major trout fishing rivers in Wales.
