Summary
SIR - Are we every going to sort out the problems in this country when our criminal justice system continues to place a higher value on money than on human life? Your reported (Oct 3) on pages one and two the theft of money from an elderly lady by a relative who was her carer. Although the headline mentioned pounds 200,000, the actual amount of money the accused was charged with stealing was pounds 49,741.
Obviously there would have been a lot of distress caused to the vulnerable victim by a person in a position of trust, although she and her daughter appeared to have been well cared for by the accused. The accused has been sent to prison for two years.See the full content of this document
